API upgrade makes candidate application process more efficient

Overview of the Interview Coordinator API upgrade development

This post is intended as an initial overview of our ambitions for an updated Interview Coordinator API (Application Programmers Interface)

We will publish a series of further posts showing the progress we make as we release each API method for testing and then for the final release to the production version of Interview Coordinator.

A bit of background ….

Interview Coordinator includes a feature which allows Hiring Managers to post job adverts to a range of “Job Boards”. One of those job boards is what we call the “Generic” customer job board. In effect, this job is designed to act as a set of customer specific “careers pages” to which a corporate website can be linked.

Candidates applying through the Generic job board will automatically be inserted into the candidate list for a published campaign, and each vacancy can be individually configured to create a customized application process, which is most appropriate for that specific vacancy.

For example, a vacancy (or recruitment campaign) can be configured such that the application process can include asking the candidate to answer a series of vacancy specific questions (which could include video response questions) as part of the application process.

The Generic job board function provides a great set of options for hiring managers to make the recruitment process more efficient, by making it easy to customize the application process so that it is more relevant for the vacancy being filled. It therefore saves time by removing the need to ask candidates a series of standard questions at a later time.

However, the design of the Generic job board is fixed. It “looks” like an extension to the Interview Coordinator software and not like the design of a customers’ website

The development ambition …..

We recognized that Design and Branding is often an important factor when considering how to configure a set of corporate careers web pages. Therefore, we wanted to give customers the option to configure their own website with the same set of functionality as the Interview Coordinator Generic job board. With this option they could also customize the application process depending on vacancy type, but use their own corporate branding and design.

To fulfill this ambition we embarked on the task of building a series of API methods which would allow any corporate website to directly interact with the Interview Coordinator database.

The series of news posts under category “API Documentation” sets out to explain the use of each API method in relation to an application process which can be customized for the specific job being advertised.
